Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)

Scenario

Jackal is an inscrutable killer who makes his living by carrying out attacks for the highest reward. He soon meets his equal in a persistent British intelligence officer who tracks him down in an exciting cat-and-mouse chase across Europe.. "Day of the Jackal" The novel is set in 1963 and includes an assassination attempt on the then president of France, Charles de Gaulle. The play moves the action to the present time. Espionage/spy/assassin movies have always been an absolute favorite of mine, from my earliest memories of James Bond to Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne, movies like Shooter, Day of the Jackal (original) and The Jackal, Leon the Professional and the list goes on.

It definitely creates authenticitywhich is pretty damn cool to see

continues. This is just another great series in a long list of great series. With Eddie Redmayne at the helm, and he’s really awesome, this series is great. I’ve worked with guns most of my life, been around guns my whole life and personally hold firearms licenses – it’s very easy to see that they brought in subject matter experts and military people to consult on this show. The entire cast seems to get along pretty well…except for one.

I actually thought she was terrible

I first saw Lashana Lynch in the latest James Bond and to be honest, I didn’t think her performance was anything special. Unlike previous actresses of color (if that was the intention), and let’s just go there, she fell far short of the mark when compared to the excellent Halle Berry or even the legendary Grace Jones. She felt wooden, flat, uninspiring, frankly without merit or talent. But I thought maybe she was just sucking James Bond, "give her one more time". But 5 episodes down the line…she’s just a no-brainer.

Hell, what about Thandiwa Newton, SHE IS FANTASTIC!!!

I don’t know what her job was before acting, but she might want to think about going back to it. I think the casting for Lashana Lynch was frankly poor. Personally, Idris Elba would be an extremely good choice as an MI6 agent. If you need a British woman of colour, Christine Adams is great! So many great choices and they chose cardboard cutout.

If you can ignore the basically hopeless Lashana Lynch, the series is great. It’s a shame that this will be a mini-series and not a multi-season series that would be something special. I think Eddie Redmayne should seriously consider other espionage TV shows because he is fascinating to watch and this show would get a 10/10 if it wasn’t for Lynch’s terrible casting.. The new season of "Silos" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
