When Freddy Lupin’s whimsical wish turns him into a werewolf and unleashes a malevolent moon sprite on Earth, Freddy must restore cosmic order before the Earth and Moon collide. The German version of the film was cut by about 2.5 minutes to achieve a “Unrated” rating. The uncut version was rated “Not for ages 6+”. Next up is 100% Wolf (2020). The Great Kennel composed by Ash Gibson Greig, Andrew Craig. Pink-maned “Freddy” looks more like a poodle than a wolf, but he’s a firebrand when it comes to helping his pack of lupine superheroes who try to help people in need! Tired of being constantly beaten up, he looks up to the sky and makes a wish. Then there’s a moon spirit “Moopoo” in front of him, and he’s no longer a wimp. The problem is that his new blue friend needs life energy to survive, so he must find a way to get him and his people back to the Moon, or disaster will befall us all! There’s only one way to do this, and that is to find “Max”, an ostracized wolf living deep in the forest who possesses the necessary magic spell. They set off to search, but will “Max’s” resentment help them, or could she have her own devious plan to get revenge on those who hunted her? It’s a pretty fun family adventure, but it struggles to find its audience. The very young probably won’t appreciate the sense of menace (at tea time), especially towards the end – and the elderly will probably be put off by the rather childish initial characterization of “Freddy”. It’s also probably twenty minutes too long, but as a simple, light drama, it does what it promises, tapping into the aspirations we all have when we’re young and want to fit in, lead, and be appreciated. Forgettable stuff, but it’s lively enough and watchable enough.
