Scenario

A modern tale of making a fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Basically, they manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman at a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), assemble drilling machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, solvers, problem solvers, and facilitators.

Taylor Sheridan makes her female characters look so shallow even when they seem strong, so this series is no different. But for me the show is a success because Billy Bob steals every scene where even the half-naked women appear! The way the oil business is described is mostly true to how the industry is run.

His female characters have major flaws

BB has the best lines to describe the value of oil and what moves the world (oil) around. The settings are great, the stagecraft is quite ingenious. I’m not the only one who understands why the daughter is so dumb and the wife is such a loser, but I guess this is Sheridan’s style.

But for great lines and to see Billy Bob Thornton at his best, watch this show
